Late callbacks, tax amounts learned on the last day, reports nobody understands… The reason for switching accountants is rarely one big issue — it is usually a pile of small ones. The good news: with proper planning, the handover can be done in a week.
When can I switch?
You can change accountants in any month. The most practical time is right after a filing period closes, so nothing is left open.
Step 1: Contract with the new advisor
Agree the scope and monthly fee in writing. The new advisor starts the necessary authorisations and notices on your behalf.
Step 2: Collect the documents
- Statutory ledgers and e-Ledger submissions
- Copies of filed returns and accruals
- Trial balance, balance sheet and income statement
- Personnel files and payroll records
- Any tax office correspondence or audit documents
Step 3: Transfer authorisations
Access to the tax, social security and e-document portals is granted to the new advisor and removed from the old one — important for confidentiality too.
Step 4: Opening check
Balances taken over are compared with bank and current accounts. Any difference is discussed: does it belong to the past period or carry forward?
Will this sour things with my old accountant?
A handover is a routine process under professional rules. Settling matters such as unpaid fees in advance makes document delivery faster.
At Ankara Muhasebeci we manage the entire handover; you just sign a few documents.
