Your first employee is a big step for your business — and the start of a new set of legal obligations. With this checklist you can complete your first hire correctly and without penalties.
Before hiring
- Workplace registration: If you are employing staff for the first time, the workplace must be registered with social security.
- e-Declaration authorisation: The person filing notices (usually your advisor) is authorised.
- Incentive check: Suitable incentives are identified in advance based on the employee’s age, gender and employment history.
On the first day
- Hiring notice: As a rule, it must be filed before the employee starts. Late notices can lead to administrative fines.
- Employment contract: A written contract protects both sides; pay, working hours and duties should be clear.
- Personnel file: Collect documents such as ID copy, proof of address, diploma and health report.
Every month
- Send the timesheet to your advisor.
- Payroll is prepared and salary is paid through the bank.
- The withholding & premium return is filed and taxes and premiums are paid on time.

Employer cost is more than the net salary: social security premiums and taxes are added. Our gross-to-net salary calculator shows an approximate figure.
